1. About Koala: One of Australia’s most iconic species.

2. Scenario: 2019-20 bushfires made habitat loss enhancement. Affected 24% of its habitats.

3. Contribution by Climate Change: Increase in the severity of droughts and fire threatening loss of species.

4. Government Intervention: To protect habitat and address all other threats to their ongoing survival.

5. Existing Law: Inadequate to control clearing of core koala habitat.

6. Urgent Priorities: Protection of koala habitat corridors, improved monitoring methods, increased funding for community conservation groups, banning old-tree to log and incentives for farmers to protect land.

7. Protection of koala habitat from logging, mining, land clearing and urban development is required.

8. Political Consensus: Urgent protection of koala habitat is the only solution to hinder its possible extinction.

9. Role of Conservationists: Readiness to work with government, industry, communities and unions and protection of forest corridors to protect the species.

10.Area of Concern: New South Wales (NWS), Australia. In NWS Pilliga region Koala population was thriving before the bushfires but now it is likely to extinct locally.
