The food to avoid if you care about climate change

1. Around half of the habitable land on Earth is used for growing food including ≤80 % for grazing livestock.

2. Raising livestock covers a lot of space making way to release all the carbon once stored in trees, other plants, and soil.

3. Animal products create far more greenhouse gas (GHG) than fruits and vegetables.

4. Mostly deforestation in Amazon rainforest is for grazing cattle.

5. Farming process for food like coffee, uses fertilizers that emit powerful GHG, nitrous oxide.

6. Some animals has ruminants which is responsible for emitting tons of methane into the atmosphere.

7. GHG emissions from the production and distribution (Land use and Farming process) of common foods are the two biggest factors that determine the emissions.

8. Producing a kilogram of beef emits 60 kilograms of GHGs (CO2-equivalents). While peas emits just 1 kilogram per kg.

9. Land use and farm-stage emissions together accounts >80% of the footprint for most foods.

10.Our consumption habits emit billions of tons of GHGs into the atmosphere. Our diets account for one-fourth of those emissions.
